UK farthing
Victoria
veiled head
1895 to 1901
Values, images, and specifications for British farthing
coins from 1895 to 1901. (veiled head)
The first 'veiled head'
Victorian UK farthing was
minted in 1895, and the
last in 1901.
The obverse features the
older veiled bust of Victoria
facing left, adorned in
jewellery.
The reverse shows the helmed Britannia seated facing right,
holding a trident, hand resting on a shield, with the date below,
'FARTHING' above, and seas in the background.
Farthings were artificially darkened from 1897 until 1917, to
reduce confusion with the half sovereign, which was very similar
in size and weight, but obviously worth signficantly more.
Our Queen Victoria era UK farthing category has been
broken down in to six pages:
Victoria was the longest reigning British monarch at
nearly 64 years, until topped by Elizabeth II in 2015.
Victoria married Albert in 1840. The pair had 9 children,
who went on to marry in to royalty across Europe.
The Victorian era was one of dramatic change and development in industry, science, culture, and politics.
Victoria entered a protracted period of mourning
following Albert's death in 1861, lasting many years.
