1936 after his brother, King
Edward VIII, abdicated.
The first King George VI
United Kingdom florin was
minted in 1937, and the
last in 1951.
The King George VI era United Kingdom florin
obverse features the bare head of George VI facing left.
The reverse shows a crowned rose in the center
representing England, a thistle bud to the left,
representing Scotland, and a shamrock leaf to
the right representing Ireland.

dismantling of the British Empire and it's
transformation in to the Commonwealth.
24 pennies = 2 shillings = 1 florin = 1/10 pound
From 1937 to 1946 the silver content remained
at 50%, before the composition was changed
to cupro-nickel in 1947.
