George III became king
in 1760, upon George II's death, (his grandfather), his
father having died in 1751.
The first George III British
farthing was minted in 1771,
and the last in 1807.
Farthings were minted infrequently during George III's
reign, each period of issue featuring distinct obverse
and reverse designs.
Earlier coins from the Tower Mint showed the king
wearing armour on the obverse, and Britannia holding a
spear and olive branch on the reverse, with date below.

From 1799 to 1807 the minting of farthings was
outsourced to the SOHO mint in Birmingham.
The design was changed, the obverse showing
the king robed, with the date below, and Britannia
holding a trident and olive branch on the reverse.

= 1/48 of a shilling = 1/960 of a pound
