King Edward VIII, abdicated


The first King George VI

United Kingdom penny

was minted in 1937, and

the last in 1951.

The King George VI era United Kingdom penny obverse

features the bare head of George VI, facing left.


The reverse shows Britannia seated facing right, wearing a

helmet, and holding a trident. Her other hand rests on a shield

bearing the Cross of Saint George. A lighthouse is in the background, to the left of Britannia. The words 'ONE' and

'PENNY' are in the fields, and the date in the exergue below.
