after the death of his father,
King Edward VII, in 1910.
The first King George V
United Kingdom threepence
was minted in 1911, and
the last in 1936.
The King George V era United Kingdom threepence obverse
features the bare head of George V, facing left.
The earlier reverse shows the royal crown above the
number '3', with the date divided to either side. A wreath
with a bow at the base surrounds the main design.
The design was changed in 1928, when the oak branches
and acorns reverse was introduced.

By 1922 Ireland had divided. The UK became
'The United Kingdom of Great Britain and
Northern Ireland'. UK currency continued to be
used as the official legal tender of the newly
independent 'Irish Free State' until 1928.
